On Sunday morning we went to Fig Tree Deli Café. I decided I wanted to go there after seeing the double bacon and egg roll that TFP wrote about.
Here it is in all it’s splendour. Some people might balk at the crusty egg, but I actually like it like that. Of course that usually conflicts with one of my other loves, the runny yolk egg. Fortunately Fig Tree Deli did an amazing job of preserving both qualities here! You might also notice that there are two eggs on here, and you’d be right, for this is Fig Tree Deli Café’s famous double bacon and egg roll. It also had BBQ sauce on it and as a result, I do declare it frikkin’ awesome.
Caroline had the biggest breakfast they had on the menu. Well, ok, she wasn’t going to. She wanted the beans that were not on the other breakys, and I wanted the halloumi that she would get. I ended up with the sausage too – bonus! Another excellent breakfast. I’d highly recommend Fig Tree Deli Café.
We then caught a bus from Bondi to Watsons Bay, the home of Doyles On The Wharf. I love the fish & chips you get from Doyles, although I had a rather good fish & chips during the week from a place in Balmain too. Ok, Doyles was better, the chips were not oily or steamed soggy from the heat trap caused by the fish on top. The fish too was just lovely, tender and tasty. I could probably eat at Doyles every day too…
But what sets Doyles on the Wharf aside from every other fish and chip shop I know of, is the view. We sat on the wall next to the beach, and this was our wonderful view of the bay, with Sydney city in the distance.
How could anyone say no to that view? This is one of the many reasons that I love Australia and Sydney.
I like ferries too.
This is the view back on Doyles from the ferry wharf. The steps at the waters edge is where we sat to enjoy our meal.
And to end an amazing fun filled day we finished at the Bondi Winter Festival. We didn’t skate, but lots of other people did.
In the other direction you can see how busy it was. All the pointy tents were stalls where you could buy yummy food. In the lower left of the picture someone has those spiral fried potatoes. We didn’t have one, but I’ve had them before, and they’re very good.
Inside the “ski hut”, which was warm and inviting, was lots of place to sit and relax with your glühwein.
They even had a fireplace with couches around it. This little girl looked like she wasn’t going to give up that fire for anything!
Outside they had these cool gas heaters that used the intake of air to make wonderful fiery vortices.
The view from the ski hut looking back towards the entrance.
Finally, food time. I snuck a picture of the German sausages that would soon be ours.
And here it is. A cheese kransky on a long roll with sauerkraut, onion and three sauces, mustard, tomato and BBQ.
Dessert was to be Dutch poffertjes (spelt incorrectly on the sign too)
The poffertje machine cooking our poffertjes.
While we waited for out poffertjes we watched the skaters.
And there they are. A dozen poffertjes with chocolate sauce.
And a dozen with maple syrup. We shared both of them for maximum taste sensations!
And look, whether or not this is related to the festival I don’t know, but the street is all lit up all Christmassy like too.
