Sorry, this is another catch up post. With any luck I’ll post a decent report tomorrow. For the time being here are a few meals that we had recently.
This is a Dutch Uitsmijter from De Hollandse Bakker in La Lucia Mall.
On a visit to Gusto! Café Caroline had the savoury mince on toast.
While I had the breakfast panini – scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage & tomato.
Next are a couple of shots of some home cooked meals. We found some pre-made Thai curry sauces that we liked the look of. This is the green curry to which we added chicken and red pepper.
The next one we did was a red curry with beef fillet and sugar snap peas.
And finally a massaman curry, also with beef and brown basmati rice.

I still have to try Uitsmijter! That egg on the savoury mince on toast looks magnificent! A super food porny shot. I note that the curries all have baby corn in them – I love baby corn and would love it in all our curries. What rice do you guys eat at home? We mostly eat jasmine rice. Sometimes Jac will buy basmati, which I don’t like as much as jasmine.
You’re right I didn’t notice that all of those curries had baby corn. We also love it, but in this case it was actually in the sauce mix and we didn’t add it. They were all very yummy, but still not a replacement for good authentic Thai food.
You should try the uitsmijter – the word in Dutch means “bouncer” (lit. out thrower). From what I can see it’s called that because it was often eaten the morning after being thrown out of a club for being drunk and disorderly. I suppose it’s the Dutch equivalent of the English breakfast, which is also supposedly good for hangovers. Not that I’d know of course, being a “hardly” drinker!
The savoury mince does look particularly porny doesn’t it!
We eat all sorts of rice, but I do prefer the fragranced rices. In this case they were brown basmati, which is not as fragrant as regular basmati, but it supposed to be low-GI and therefore better for you. I’m happy with any rice really, but given the option, where applicable, I’ll go for noodles instead. I *love* noodles!
Excellent, lots of egg and Thai food pictures.
The egg and mince looks amazing, never heard or seen it here I’m the UK. The tummy till makes me want eggs right now!
I see you cooked my favourite massaman curry, I must have eaten that about 10 times whilst I was away. In thailand its more like a soup so you get a lot of sauce/broth.
We had lots of babycorn in our curries and they tend to also use a lot of broccoli and snake beans as well.
Oh that savoury mince with egg is a great meal!
Yes the massaman should have been more soupy, but we used a packet sauce and half of it had probably sunk down into the rice! Nice curry saucy rice!
Savoury mince on toast with an egg on top is probably my favourite indulgence breaky!
