A comment from the other day by “Who is Cooking” led us to Thai Kitchen in Kysna for dinner tonight.
This place is busy, and it’s not hard to see why. The food is excellent and authentic, but you do have to be patient. Fortunately the kitchen is completely open for all to view so if there isn’t a whole lot of you to chat amongst you can always watch what is going on in the kitchen.
The kitchen is quite busy, but it seems very organised. On top of all the seated orders there are also take away orders being produced and going out.
The waitresses are very multi purpose. We saw them waiting, preparing, cooking and washing dishes, and I am sure there is more that they do too.
On the menu you’ll find common Thai items such as Penang Curry, Tom Yum & Phad Thai, amongst many other Thai named and Western named dishes. The prices are reasonable too.
Also on the menu is the story of Thai Kitchen, which I’ll leave in their own words:
Welcome to Joy’s home kitchen.
A Thai meal is more spontaneous than predictable. And the flavours are robust. Besides take-aways we do offer an informal sit down mean where each dish is served as and when it comes out of the pan. Patience and a sense of humor is essential. Particularly when it gets busy. And that’s the time your second bottle of wine comes in handy. You will also need to make yourself heard when you require service (there is none). Help yourself to condiments If there are none on your table, please place your orders at the counter, and we hope you will enjoy the food Joy cooks.
They are not licensed so you will need to bring your own wine. They don’t charge corkage, however don’t think you can just pop around the corner to the other licensed restaurant as they say on the menu:
Persello’s could lose their license supplying you with wine and drinks. Please don’t ask them. It’s not fair.
Caroline had the Thai Green Curry. This is it in the bowl as it was when it arrived at the table.
And after she had dished some of it onto the plate supplied with jasmine rice. It was exceptionally nice.
This is what I had. Crispy pork & Broccoli (with onions and oyster sauce). This was amazing, especially the pork that had minimal fat (although it did have some) and ultra crispy skin (crackling) that really did crackle in the mouth.
I’d highly recommend the place. Remember to bring cash as they do not accept credit card yet.
